Service Description

Mondays: May 5, June 30, July 21 -- 6pm-7:30pm $40 per session Cultivate the energies of serenity, acceptance, courage, and wisdom as you engage in this gentle tai chi/qi gong practice. Our days are filled with countless things that are outside of our control leaving us feeling off balance and unsure. So, how do we show up? How do we support ourselves with love and grace? Join Mary for a gentle tai chi/qi gong practice set to the Serenity Prayer to help you find your center, remind yourself of what’s in your control, and regulate your emotions naturally. Whether you're seeking more harmony in your life, healing from addictive behaviors, affected by the addictive behaviors of others, or would like to welcome the energies of serenity, acceptance, courage, and wisdom in your life, this is a loving practice for you. Tai Chi for Recovery is a set of practical exercises designed to help you regulate your emotions naturally. This practice is an adaptation of the ancient evidence-based stress reduction techniques of tai chi and qi gong. The form is choreographed to the Serenity Prayer with breath work, gentle stretching, mindfulness, and movement paired with the familiar recovery concepts of serenity, acceptance, courage, and wisdom. Beginning with a body scan and intention setting, we'll learn about the history and basics of tai chi and qi gong, stretch and move through the 5 Tai Chi for Recovery forms, and connect with our hearts. Our session will close with a meditation and commitment to ourselves. Tai Chi for Recovery was created by Theresa Knorr of Balance Recovery Consultation and it is an excerpt of the Baby Dragon form taught by Master Cody Templeton at Shunyata Kai International. Mary has been certified to teach Tai Chi for Recovery since 2021 and has been leading groups weekly since 2022. Mary is a Certified Addiction Recovery Coach and Certified Peer Recovery Advocate in the state of New York and a Nationally Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist. Mary loves meeting people on their healing journeys, learning about their passions, and helping connect them to practices that welcome harmony to mind, body, and spirit. No experience necessary. Wear clothes that are comfortable for you to move in. Please note that this practice can be done from a seated position, if that would feel best in your body. Modifications will be offered as we move through the practice.
